The Atacama Desert is the driest desert in the world. In this hostile, starkly beautiful landscape nomads flourished for tens of thousands of years. Along the road you will detour into reservation lands to visit archaeological sites, view ancient petroglyphs and experience the stunning multi-colored mineral soils and formations. Attractions here are both cultural, springing from the vibrant and well preserve 10,000 years of civilization, as well as natural: vast salt flats, Aeolian carved badlands, volcanoes, hot springs, geysers, and sublime desert beauty.

You will stay in the oasis village of San Pedro where your guide will lead you around the village providing a hands-on introduction to the local culture.  This is a fascinating place with a lost-in-time feel, yet friendly and accessible.

This very complete program will give you an excellent impression of the driest place on earth. On the first day you will fly from Santiago to Calama, where you will drive to your hotel in the small town of San Pedro de Atacama getting a first impression of this dry and hostile yet beautiful environment.

In the following days you will you will explore a selection of the many attractions in this region with your local – for example the salt planes, the many old churches, Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), remote villages, the Geysers of Tatio, and the relaxing hot springs at Puritama.

For accommodations you have a choice from the international famous and award winning Awasi 5 star-plus program with its unique infrastructure, and absolutely all inclusive private service or the slightly less extravagant but even still excellent Tierra Atacama program.
